A beautiful Grey Heron fishing in Lac Léman
I have seen this Grey Heron a few times next to the lake, and one morning I was fortunate to watch him catch his breakfast. (No way I can tell the difference between the male or female, so I assume male for now.)
He was casually standing there until his attention was caught by something in the water. His whole body tensed as he concentrated with a razor-sharp focus.
And then the strike! It was too fast to see.
He clenched the little fish in his beak for a long time and had bitten it in two when finally he swallowed.
Afterwards, he stood around for a while. Then, with a squawk, majestically flew off over the lake.
What a magnificent bird and a privilege to have seen him fish.
